Kitchen Design: “White and Bright with Shades of Gray”

CAPID  visits A. Radley Designs who unveils to us her latest, Stunning Kitchen Design.

A 1980’s kitchen receives a much-needed update. This fun-loving couple enjoyed entertaining but the kitchen design of their newly purchased home inhibited their high-spirited style. At the top of their wish list:  open up the kitchen as much as possible to allow friends and family to be more involved in festivities.By penetrating the adjoining wall, the kitchen now opens to the dining room and living room which accommodates their classic pool table.  A new peninsula acts as an eating bar for informal dining and entertaining but also increases counter and storage space.Cabinetry below the peninsula was designed to look like a piece of furniture and custom-stained in an understated gray tone to complement the back splash and natural stone quartzite counter top.   A wine and beverage cooler and a microwave drawer make this a true entertainment center. Raising the ceiling and installing Velux skylights allows natural light to flow into this charming kitchen and the adjacent rooms. When the sun shines too brightly through the skylights, the homeowners use a remote switch to control light-filtering shades.  In the evening, under cabinet task lighting and toe kick lighting on separate dimmers add beauty and drama to the room.Combination gray matte and glossy glass tiles add just the right amount of sheen and allure to the back splash.  And so as not to spoil its beauty, Legrand Adorne switches and wall plates in brushed pewter are mounted on the tiled splash. A Thermador professional range, stainless appliances and pewter cabinetry hardware intensify the sparkle and shine while soft gray paint on the walls and ceiling offset the snowy white cabinetry.Most importantly, the homeowners’ charismatic kitchen now reflects their outgoing personalities and becomes the gathering place they desired. Designed by ~ Angela RadleyA.Radley Designs www.aradleydesigns.com Photography by VT Fine Art Photography
